What if I need research Help?
For more than 23 years the CAPE BRETON GENEALOGY & HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION has gathered information that is helpful for people researching their family tree. The information is large and varied. You can find cemetery records most with headstone pictures, family trees, obituaries, books & photos, videos, genealogy basics – how to articles, surname research contacts, civic records ( births, deaths & marriages), census records, church records if available, some funeral kome records, historical maps, some historical material, newspaper records, as well as a selection of school, military, some shipping material and more.
The materials are arranged in a self- help manner so members can find the material. There are approx 9,000 articles consisting of 400,000 files. We suggest that members take some hours to browse the site to gain knowledge of the material. You are likely to find information you were not expecting to find. There is also an excellent search engine that can do a full site search or a search can be done for a particular item.

RESEARCHERS GROUP
Our group has a researchers group willing to share information; they are arranged by name and location and they may have information for you. They may be contacted by email and are located in the Research section at the top of the Home Page.
WRITE AN ARTICLE
If you heed further help on your family tree, we suggest you write an article for our newsletter, the EZINE. In the article you can include what you already know about your family including a family tree and pedigree chart, if possible. Ask about the information that you seek. All the info will be featured in an EZINE issue and placed on the website for future reference.

This collection is large and varied, and continually growing, so please take the time necessary to familiarize yourself with the site.

The mission of the CBGHA is to preserve the family history of Cape Breton through the records of individuals, churches, communities, and other agencies/organizations.  CBGHA is actively engaged in acquiring, recording and making available local family records to its members.

The Cape Breton Genealogy and Historical Association (CBGHA) is a Nova Scotia registered not-for-profit society located in Sydney, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada. It was formed in 2003 and is operated by a board of directors and staff who are all volunteers.
